Biography of Mike Caravaggio
Mike Caravaggio is the Director of Thermal & Hydro Fleet at the Electric Power Research Institute. EPRI's Thermal & Hydro Fleet R&D group research pressure parts, gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, emission controls, heat rate, hydropower, and flexibility for a global group of generating companies. The Thermal & Hydro Fleet R&D seeks to ensure the tools and knowledge required to manage these assets to reduce unplanned outages and operations and maintenance (O&M) costs, minimize emissions, and improve unit profitability are developed and successfully integrated into the group's businesses. Key here is developing technologies and approaches to ensure resiliency and reliability of these assets during the energy transition.
Caravaggio has held many roles previously at EPRI including Director Thermal Fleet, Senior Program Manager, Major Component Reliability, as well as leading the EPRI Steam and Water Cycle Chemistry Research area.
Before rejoining EPRI in 2014, Caravaggio ran Integrated Chemistry Solutions Pte. Ltd., a Singapore based Business Development and Technical Consultancy company serving the Power and Water industries. Earlier in Caravaggio's career he held various roles including engineering, supervisory and management, with Ontario Power Generation, a Canadian based Utility Company.
Caravaggio received a Bachelors of Science degree in environmental (chemical) engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and a Masters of Business Administration (Strategy) from the Nanyang Business School (Singapore). He is a member of the Research Committee on Power Plant and Environmental Chemistry. Caravaggio also is a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
